Hermits Rest
Tour
The Hermits Rest Tour is a two-hour narrated motor coach tour
that travels westward eight miles one way along the old wagon road
built by the Santa Fe Railway. There are stops along the West Rim
at several spectacular overlooks, with a glimpse of the rapids of
the Colorado River below. The tour stops at Hermits Rest, a unique
building of native stone created by Mary E. J. Colter in 1914. Tour
returns via the same route. Children 16 and under are free when accompanied
by a paying adult.
Desert View
Tour
The Desert View Tour covers some 52 miles in 3.75 hours. Traveling
east along the Rim of the Grand Canyon, the Colorado River emerges
from the depths of the inner gorge and many of its rapids can be viewed.
Stops include Yavapai Observation Station, perched on the very brink
of the Canyon; and Lipan Point, often said to be the most spectacular
viewpoint on the East
Rim Drive. The highlight of the tour is the stop at Desert View, an
outpost some 25 miles from Grand Canyon Village. Here you will find
the Watchtower, a re-creation of the unusual towers erected by the
ancient Indians of the Southwest. The view from atop the Watchtower
is nothing short of breathtaking. Children 15 and under are free when
accompanied by a paying adult.
Sunrise Tour
Enjoy this spectacular time of day as the sun rises over the ramparts
of the Palisades of the Desert. It's an inspirational way to begin
a day of activities and to share this natural wonder with people from
all over the world. Children 15 and under are free when accompanied
by a paying adult.
Sunset Tour
The Sunset Tour includes an orientation to the Canyon while you
enjoy the sunset at Yaki or Mojave Point, two of the most panoramic
South Rim viewpoints. This tour will introduce the historic village
area, the rustic architecture of Mary E. J. Colter, and the contemporary
human history of Grand Canyon. This 90-minute tour includes a brief
stop at Yavapai Point, then along the Rim for sunset. Children 15
and under are free when accompanied by a paying adult.
