Upon viewing the Grand Canyon,
one of Seven Natural Wonders of the World, can be overpowering with
its enormous size and beautiful color. This is a site you would not
want to miss! Looking from the rim you can experience the meaning of
the Grand Canyon - vast, enormous, beautiful, incredible and breath
taking.
The information provided on these
pages is for you to come explore the canyon and to help you begin to understand
this "Seven Natural Wonders of the World."

Grand Canyon Statistics:
277 river miles pass through the canyon
The width ranges from 1/2 to 18 miles wide.
The average depth is one mile.
The canyon covers over one million acres.
In 1908 the Grand Canyon became a National Monument
In 1919 the Grand Canyon became a National Park.
South Rim (7,000 feet above sea level)
The South Rim is open all year round. Traveling to the canyon in the summer
months, you can expect a lot of traffic and to find a parking space can be difficult.
Climate:
Summer Temperatures: 50 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit
Winter Temperatures: 0 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit
North Rim (8,000 feet above sea level)
The North Rim is open approximately mid May through mid October. The exact closing and opening dates depend on the amount of snow fall received throughout the winter.
Since the North Rim can receive snowfall anytime of year and the spring and fall
months weather is unpredictable it is best to be prepared for all types of
weather conditions.
Climate:
Summer Temperatures: 40 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit
Winter Temperatures: -10 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit
The Inner Canyon at Phantom Ranch ( 2,570 feet above sea level)
The inner canyon is considered to
be a desert except along the rivers and creeks. The temperature can be 30
degrees difference from the rim temperatures.
Climate:
Summer Temperatures: 80 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit
Winter Temperatures: 30 - 60 degrees Fahrenheit
Park Regulations and Safety

To prevent an accident, please stay on all trails and away from the rim and cliff edges.

Stay away from the rim during lightening storms.

All pets must be on a leash at all times and are not
permitted on any trails below the rim.

All vehicles including mountain bikes are restricted to paved roads.

Do not hike into the canyon unless you are carrying sufficient food and water and wearing adequate sun protection, clothing and footwear.

Visitors have been kicked, chased, and bitten while trying to feed wildlife. It is illegal to feed deer, squirrels or any other wild animal in the park.
